When you think of alternative messaging apps, you may think of BBM, LiveProfile, WhatsApp and Skype will surely be at the forefront of anyone’s list for free calls.
Well, step aside, boys, there’s a new kid on the block.
Introducing, Viber.

Where the likes of LiveProfile and BBM offer a brilliant network of users enjoying free messaging between friends, they don’t offer much in the way of calls, and whilst Skype offers the full package of messaging and calls, the data usage is insane, and requires a separate username.
Viber, however is different. It uses your phone as a user, and syncs with your contact list to find other Viber users.
The best thing about the app though, is that, unlike Whatsapp, which also uses your phone number as a user account, Viber is far from intrusive, feeling like nothing more than an extension of your SMS client.
Of course, it does use data, in order to free up the charges, but for the majority of smartphone users on unlimited data plans, that won’t be a problem.
The app is well refined, with a clean neat interface and instant response.
Faultless and free? Can’t go wrong there!
